On October 8th, Nintendo surprised subscribers by adding three new SNES titles to the Nintendo Switch Online service. The most notable addition is Mario and Wario, which marks its first official release outside Japan. Joining this puzzle classic are Fatal Fury Special and Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, the inaugural title in the Bubsy franchise.

Nintendo maintains a consistent schedule of adding retro games to its Nintendo Switch Online service, regularly updating the NES, SNES, and Game Boy applications. Currently, the SNES: Nintendo Classics application offers 77 games, just two fewer than the NES app's collection of 79 titles. The previous SNES update occurred in July 2025 with the release of Mario Paint, which introduced mouse control functionality to the service for the first time. Players can utilize this feature through Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers in mouse mode or by connecting a USB mouse directly.

Following a brief update to the SNES: Nintendo Classics application, subscribers gained access to three additional gaming experiences. The standout title, Mario and Wario, originally launched in Japan in 1993, presents players with a unique 2D puzzle adventure. The game's premise involves Wario placing a cracked Yoshi eggshell over Mario's head, obstructing his vision. Players take control of a fairy character who manipulates the environment by adding or removing objects and obstacles, guiding the blinded Mario toward his destination with Luigi. Similar to Mario Paint, this title requires mouse controls for gameplay. In preparation for Mario and Wario's release, Nintendo enhanced the SNES application with expanded mouse control compatibility, extending support to additional games like Nobunaga's Ambition and Mario's Super Picross.

The October 8th update also incorporates two third-party classics. Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, representing the beginning of the Bubsy series, now joins the SNES collection. This release follows closely after Atari's launch of Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection, a comprehensive compilation featuring both SNES and Genesis versions of the original game alongside other Bubsy titles. Completing the trio of new additions is Fatal Fury Special, SNK's enhanced 1993 fighting game that builds upon Fatal Fury 2, which had previously joined the SNES application in January 2025.
