Saber Interactive to Develop New AAA Game Based on Hasbro Franchise

Fresh off the heels of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, developer Saber Interactive is gearing up for another major project. This time, they're partnering with Hasbro to bring one of the toy and game giant's iconic franchises to life in a brand new AAA game.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks confirmed the collaboration during a recent earnings call, revealing that Saber Interactive is working on a game based on a "tentpole" Hasbro property. While Cocks remained tight-lipped about the specific franchise, he expressed his admiration for Saber's work, especially on Space Marine 2, praising its blend of compelling single-player and robust multiplayer experiences.

The news has sparked widespread speculation amongst fans and industry insiders. Hasbro boasts a vast portfolio of beloved franchises, ranging from G.I. Joe and Transformers to My Little Pony and Dungeons & Dragons.  The success of Baldur's Gate 3, a recent Dungeons & Dragons game, highlights the potential for successful adaptations of Hasbro properties.

Cocks specifically highlighted Saber's "Swarm tech,"  the technology used to render the massive hordes of Tyranids in Space Marine 2. This suggests the new game might involve similarly large-scale action and impressive visuals. Given Saber's demonstrated proficiency in this area,  franchises like Transformers seem particularly well-suited for this type of gameplay.

The timing is also noteworthy, as the Transformers franchise hasn't seen a major game release recently, with the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate earlier this year.  This gap in the market could present a prime opportunity for Saber and Hasbro to deliver a high-quality Transformers experience.

Hasbro already has several games in development, including new titles based on Dungeons and Dragons and G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes, as well as Exodus, an original RPG from former BioWare developers.  The addition of a Saber-developed AAA title further strengthens Hasbro's growing presence in the gaming space.
