PS5 Pro Early Sales Trail PS4 Pro, But Price and Reporting Period Differ
2025-02-23 22:23:59Market research firm Circana reports that the PS5 Pro's initial sales in the US are behind those of the PS4 Pro during its corresponding launch window. This data was shared by analyst Mat Piscatella. It's crucial to note, however, that the PS5 Pro launched at a significantly higher price point than the PS4 Pro ($700 vs. $400), and Circana's reporting period was a week shorter than that of the PS4 Pro's launch.
In November of last year, Piscatella stated that the PS5 Pro had a "reasonably good" launch, with unit sales "on par" with the PS4 Pro's debut. This recent data provides a more nuanced perspective on the console's early performance.
Launching on November 7th with a price tag of $700/£800, the PS5 Pro has seen over 50 games receive updates for enhanced visuals and performance improvements. This robust library of optimized titles is a key selling point for the console.
Official sales figures for the PS5 Pro have yet to be released by Sony. However, the company's latest financial report, which included PS5 Pro sales for the first time, revealed that total PS5 sales (including both versions) are now trailing PS4 sales by 1.5 million units (75 million vs. 76.5 million) when comparing equivalent launch periods.
During an earnings call, Sony highlighted the success of titles like Astro's Playroom and Firewall Ultra, indicating a strategic focus on expanding both their family-friendly offerings and live service games within the PlayStation ecosystem.
Looking ahead, anticipated releases such as Death Stranding 2 and Rise of the Ronin are slated for release this year, along with significant third-party titles like Monster Hunter: Wildfire and GTA 6, which could further boost PS5 sales, including the Pro model.
