FragPunk Explodes onto Steam with Over 110,000 Concurrent Players and Strong Revenue

The free-to-play first-person shooter, FragPunk, has burst onto the Steam platform with remarkable success, exceeding 110,000 concurrent players in early March 2025 and generating substantial revenue.

Developed by Bad Guitar Studio, a division of NetEase subsidiary Thunder Fire Studio, FragPunk is a vibrant hero shooter pitting two teams of five against each other.  Following closed alpha and beta testing from June to October 2024, the game officially launched on PC on March 6th.

Just three days post-launch, FragPunk saw its player base explode. SteamDB data reveals a consistent rise in popularity, with daily concurrent player records being broken. The game peaked at 113,946 concurrent players on March 9th, securing its position as the 16th most popular game on Steam.

Initially met with "Mixed" reviews on Steam due to its robust monetization system – encompassing two membership tiers, premium battle passes, and multiple in-game currencies –  FragPunk has since seen a shift to "Mostly Positive" reviews. This improvement suggests that early concerns may be dissipating as more players engage with the core gameplay.  The current rating stands at 71.15% positive from over 10,000 reviews.

Despite the initial controversy, FragPunk's monetization strategy appears to be effective.  The game currently ranks sixth on Steam's Top Sellers list, indicating strong in-game spending.  Only major titles like Counter-Strike 2, Split Fiction, Monster Hunter Wilds, REPO, and the Steam Deck itself surpassed FragPunk in revenue generation during that period.

While SteamDB data provides a valuable snapshot of the game's success, it only tracks public profiles and doesn't reflect the full picture. FragPunk is also available on the Epic Games Store.  While initially planned for a simultaneous multi-platform launch, console versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S were delayed. Bad Guitar Studio has yet to announce a revised release date for these platforms.
