Overwatch 2 Season 17: New Flashpoint Map, Updates & Exciting Features

Overwatch 2 has officially announced that Season 17 will bring a fresh battleground to the Flashpoint game mode. This new map is expected to be Aatlis, which was teased during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event. Players can look forward to diving into this expansive new battlefield when the update launches on June 24.

Flashpoint, a game mode introduced in Overwatch 2 during Season 6, challenges teams to capture three strategic points across a vast map before their opponents. Currently, the mode features two maps: New Junk City and Suravasa, both of which debuted alongside Flashpoint in August 2023.

However, Overwatch 2 has now confirmed that a third map will join the Flashpoint rotation in the upcoming season. Game director Aaron Keller recently addressed fan questions on Twitter, clarifying plans for new maps in Overwatch 2''s Stadium game mode. When asked about maps for Quick Play and Competitive Play, Keller revealed that Season 17 will introduce a new Flashpoint map—marking the first addition to the mode since its launch nearly two years ago.

The new Flashpoint map is widely speculated to be Aatlis, set in Morocco and previously glimpsed in an airport poster on Numbani. Aatlis was prominently featured in the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event and appeared on the accompanying roadmap. With Season 17 set to arrive on June 24, players won't have to wait long to experience this new battleground firsthand.

But the new map isn't the only change coming to Flashpoint in Season 17. Keller has also confirmed major updates for New Junk City and Suravasa, both of which are listed on the Overwatch 2 roadmap as part of the Season 17 features. Additionally, the highly anticipated Map Voting system will debut in the same update, giving players more control over their gameplay experience.

Beyond Flashpoint, Overwatch 2 has a packed schedule of new maps on the horizon. For Stadium, Esperanca and Samoa are slated for Season 17, followed by Route 66, London, and two maps for the new Payload Race mode in Season 18. Later updates will introduce a map set in China, as well as Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo in Season 19 and beyond. Clearly, Overwatch 2 fans have a wealth of new and revamped locations to explore across various game modes in the coming year.
