While the gaming community eagerly anticipates the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has confirmed that it remains committed to supporting the original Nintendo Switch. The original Switch has achieved phenomenal success, boasting one of the largest install bases in gaming history. Its extensive library of critically acclaimed titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, has solidified its place as a fan-favorite console.

Given the original Switch's massive player base, Nintendo has no plans to abandon it. Instead, the company is set to release several high-profile games in the coming years, ensuring that Switch owners still have plenty to look forward to.

In its latest financial report, Nintendo highlighted five upcoming games for the original Switch. Among them are Pokemon Legends: Z-A, scheduled for late 2025, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a long-awaited title first announced in 2017. Additionally, Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream are confirmed for 2026, while Pokemon Champions remains without a definitive release date.

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Late 2025
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - 2025
  • Rhythm Heaven Groove - 2026
  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream - 2026
  • Pokemon Champions - TBD

Even after the Switch 2 launches on June 5, Nintendo will continue supporting the original Switch. However, the company is encouraging fans to upgrade by offering enhanced versions of select Switch 1 games for the Switch 2. For instance, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature special Switch 2 Editions with improved performance and additional features, including mouse control support for Metroid Prime 4.

It remains uncertain whether Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will receive Switch 2 Editions, but the possibility remains open. Meanwhile, existing Switch titles like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Super Mario Party Jamboree are also slated for upgrades on the new console.
