Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time has officially crossed the 500,000 sales mark, as announced by Level-5. While the game still has a way to go to match the studio's biggest hits, its early success suggests it could become a major franchise entry.

Developed by the creators of Professor Layton, Fantasy Life i blends JRPG mechanics with life simulation elements. Unlike its 3DS-exclusive predecessor, Fantasy Life i launched on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Originally slated for an October 2024 release, the game was delayed and finally launched on May 21, 2025.

The newly released RPG has already made a significant impact, surpassing 500,000 sales. Level-5 confirmed this milestone in a May 24 social media post, celebrating with a special illustration and stating, "This is just the beginning." The comment likely references the recently announced free DLC for Fantasy Life i, which will introduce new recipes and multiplayer gear. Titled "Update the World," the DLC is a response to the game's strong global reception. Level-5 has yet to confirm an exact release date for the free content.

With 500,000 sales in just three days, Fantasy Life i is already nearing half the lifetime sales of the original Fantasy Life. According to the 2023 CESA Games White Papers, the 3DS version sold 1.11 million copies by December 2022, ranking it among the top 60 best-selling 3DS games of all time. Several factors contribute to Fantasy Life i's strong start:

  • Multi-platform release: Unlike the 3DS-exclusive original, Fantasy Life i is available on multiple consoles and PC.
  • Global day-one launch: The game released simultaneously worldwide, whereas the original took nearly two years to reach Western markets after its Japanese debut in December 2012.

In addition to free DLC, Level-5 is rolling out minor updates to refine gameplay. A May 22 patch introduced Fantasy Life i multiplayer improvements, including quest completion notifications and a fixed quest progress counter. The update (version 1.1.4) is currently available on PlayStation and PC, with Switch and Xbox versions arriving on May 29.
