Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a remaster of the beloved isometric strategy game. This edition includes both a Classic version, preserving the original experience, and an Enhanced version with modern upgrades such as refined UI, additional story elements, and full voice acting. The release date is set for September 30, with pre-orders anticipated to go live shortly.

Originally launched in 1997 by SquareSoft (now Square Enix), Final Fantasy Tactics gained a dedicated following. The 2007 enhanced port, War of the Lions, further solidified its legacy. Following the success of Tactics Ogre Reborn, fans have eagerly awaited a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics. Recent social media activity hinted at a potential announcement during the June 4 State of Play, which has now been confirmed.

What to Expect in the Remaster

• Enhanced Graphics: Visual upgrades to bring the classic game into the modern era.
• Improved UI: Streamlined menus and controls for a smoother gameplay experience.
• Full Voice Acting: Characters will now be fully voiced, adding depth to the narrative.
• Classic Mode: For purists, the original graphics and gameplay are preserved, with minor quality-of-life improvements like auto-saving.

The trailer for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles revealed familiar voices, including Ben Starr and Stewart Clarke from Final Fantasy 16. Given that the remaster is being developed by Creative Business Unit 3 (the team behind FF14 and FF16), more crossover voice actors may be announced.

Currently, the remaster is confirmed for PS4 and PS5. However, considering Tactics Ogre Reborn was also released on Nintendo Switch and PC, there’s speculation that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles may eventually expand to these platforms.
