Dune: Awakening Surpasses One Million Players, Setting New Records for Funcom
2025-06-24 07:03:25Dune: Awakening has quickly become a monumental success, amassing over one million players since its release on June 10. Developed by Funcom, this survival MMO set in the iconic Dune universe has broken records, becoming the studio's fastest-selling game ever.
The game's launch on Steam was nothing short of spectacular, with 140,000 concurrent players on its first day and a peak of over 189,000 within just six days. Critics have praised the title, awarding it an impressive score of 81 on OpenCritic. This strong reception has translated into significant commercial success for Funcom.
Funcom revealed that Dune: Awakening reached the one-million-player milestone in just two weeks, a feat that took their previous hit, Conan Exiles, an entire year to achieve. The studio also shared fascinating player statistics, including over 66,000 deaths due to sandstorms, 120,000 building pieces used, and more than half a million Ornithopters crafted.
Among the game's starting mentors, BeneGesserit emerged as the most popular choice, while Mentat was the least selected. These insights highlight the diverse ways players are engaging with the rich Dune universe.
Funcom is already looking ahead, with plans to release a major update in early July, addressing player feedback and improving quality-of-life features. However, console players will have to wait a bit longer, as the game is not expected to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S until 2026.
