Ready or Not Faces Backlash Over Censorship Ahead of Console Launch
2025-07-04 07:33:01The Steam community has spoken loud and clear - tactical shooter Ready or Not has seen its review scores nosedive into 'Mostly Negative' territory following developer Void Interactive's announcement of censorship changes for the game's console release. With the PlayStation and Xbox versions launching July 15, the studio revealed it needed to modify content to meet platform certification requirements, including removing nudity, reducing gore, and altering certain scenes.
The backlash has been severe, with Steam reviews reflecting player frustration. Only 31% of recent reviews (from 9,281 in the past month) are positive, with many players expressing feelings of betrayal. The core issue appears to be that these changes will affect the PC version as well, altering an experience players have already purchased and enjoyed in its original form.
Void Interactive attempted damage control by sharing comparison images of the changes and addressing what they call 'misinformation,' but the negative review trend continues unabated. Review data shows an escalating pattern: 291 negative reviews on June 28, 628 on June 29, 686 on June 30, then spiking to 1,266 on July 2 and 2,066 on July 3.
The developer now faces a difficult choice: either proceed with the controversial changes across all platforms, potentially alienating their core PC audience, or maintain the original PC version while releasing a separate censored console edition. While the latter option might satisfy existing players, Void Interactive has shown no signs of reversing their decision, leaving the game's community divided and disappointed.
