EA Announces More Game Shutdowns in 2025

2025-07-07 00:59:00

Electronic Arts (EA) continues its trend of discontinuing online services for older games, with at least two more major titles scheduled for shutdown in 2025. The company has already closed servers for multiple games this year, leaving fans disappointed as they lose access to beloved online features.

The year began with a significant wave of EA game closures in January, including Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, seven mobile titles, and the fan-favorite The Simpsons: Tapped Out. The shutdown of The Simpsons: Tapped Out was particularly disheartening for its dedicated player base who had enjoyed the game daily for years. Subsequent months saw the termination of UFC 3 in February, followed by EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14 in March.

The most recent casualty in EA's shutdown spree was Madden NFL 21, whose servers went offline on June 30. This closure rendered certain achievements unattainable and limited gameplay options for owners of the title. Looking ahead, two more high-profile games face imminent shutdowns:

  • Madden NFL 22 (October 20, 2025)
  • FIFA 23 (December 12, 2025)

After these dates, players will lose access to online features and certain game modes, though offline content will remain playable. The FIFA 23 shutdown holds particular significance as it marks the final EA game to carry the FIFA license before the series' rebranding to EA Sports FC.
