James Carter Cathcart, the talented actor who brought to life numerous beloved characters in the English dub of the Pokemon anime, passed away after a courageous battle with throat cancer. His wife, Martha Jacobi, shared the heartbreaking news through social media, confirming his passing at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.

For over two decades, Cathcart lent his voice to some of the most memorable characters in the Pokemon universe. He was best known for voicing the wise Professor Oak, Ash's rival Gary, and the flamboyant Team Rocket member James, along with the mischievous Meowth. His contributions extended beyond Pokemon, with notable roles in other popular anime series like Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece.

Cathcart's retirement from voice acting in 2023 due to his worsening health condition was a significant loss to the anime community. Fellow Pokemon voice actor Erica Schroeder recently paid tribute to him, describing Cathcart as "one of the most joyful, exuberant, kind-hearted and talented souls" she had ever known.
