Ken Levine Confirms Judas as an Offline Single-Player Experience
2025-07-14 07:50:38Ken Levine, the visionary developer behind the highly anticipated first-person shooter Judas, has officially confirmed that the game will not adopt a live-service model. Instead, Judas will be a fully offline, single-player adventure, focusing on deep storytelling and immersive gameplay.
Levine, renowned for his work on the BioShock series, has always prioritized narrative depth in his projects. His legacy was recently revisited with Nightdive's remaster of System Shock 2, a game he originally led as the lead designer. Now, with Judas, Levine and his team at Ghost Story Games aim to deliver another groundbreaking experience.
In a recent interview with Lawrence Sonntag of Nightdive Studios, Levine elaborated on the philosophy driving Judas. He described it as "a very old-school game" with no online components or live-service elements. "Everything we do is in service of telling the story and transporting the player," he explained. The game's narrative will explore existential themes through its three main characters, each representing distinct philosophies, creating a dynamic and immersive power struggle.
Levine also addressed the financial realities of game development, acknowledging the industry's shift toward live-service models. However, he pointed to successful titles like Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as proof that traditional single-player games can thrive. "Games are expensive to make," he admitted, "but the ones that truly resonate often stick to classic storytelling and gameplay."
