Obsidian Entertainment's survival action-adventure sequel, Grounded 2, is generating significant buzz in the gaming community. While launching initially as an Xbox Series X/S and PC exclusive on July 29, industry insiders suggest a PlayStation 5 version may follow, mirroring the original game's multi-platform release pattern.

Building upon the success of its predecessor, Grounded 2 transports players back to a microcosmic world where shrunken children must survive in Brookhollow Park. This time, Obsidian promises a dramatically expanded environment with diverse biomes, mountable creatures, enhanced base-building mechanics, and refined combat systems that will challenge both new and returning players.

The game's executive producer, Marcus Morgan, recently hinted at potential future platform releases during an interview with Eurogamer. While remaining coy about specific plans, Morgan noted that since the original Grounded eventually came to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, similar opportunities might exist for the sequel.

Development focus has now shifted entirely to Grounded 2, with Obsidian already brainstorming post-launch content and potential expansions. The studio plans to maintain the first game for preservation but will concentrate all new content development on the sequel, leaving the door open for a possible Grounded trilogy in the future.

Like its predecessor, Grounded 2 will enter an extended early access period, allowing Obsidian to refine the game based on community feedback. The original spent nearly two years in Game Preview, and the developers intend to take whatever time is necessary to perfect this sequel before its full release.
