PlayStation Plus subscribers with Extra or Premium memberships will have access to Sword of the Sea at no additional cost starting Tuesday, August 19. While day one releases on PlayStation Plus are rare, 2025 has seen several high-profile additions, making this an exciting year for subscribers.

Earlier this year, the service featured critically acclaimed titles like Blue Prince, a first-person puzzle game, and Abiotic Factor, a cooperative survival experience. Following June's FBC: Firebreak and July's Abiotic Factor, Sword of the Sea continues this trend of quality day one releases.

Developed by Giant Squid, the studio behind Abzu and The Pathless, Sword of the Sea introduces players to a unique hoversword mechanic. This tool allows for fluid traversal across desolate landscapes, blending exploration with combat and platforming. The game's striking visuals and immersive soundtrack, helmed by Journey art director Matt Nava, promise a memorable experience.

August 19 will also mark the arrival of other new titles to PS Plus Extra, though specifics remain under wraps. Subscribers should note that several games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will be leaving the service on the same day.
