Pokemon GO's highly anticipated Season 20, titled Tales of Transformation, has been officially revealed by Niantic. This groundbreaking update introduces an impressive array of themed content, including brand-new Gigantamax appearances, additional Mega Evolution opportunities, and a special focus on the mythical Keldeo Pokémon.

November 2025 marks the fifth anniversary of Pokemon GO's seasonal structure, originally implemented as part of Niantic's strategy to streamline content delivery and reduce development pressure. The quarterly seasonal model has enabled the company to focus on fewer but more substantial updates, introduce extended character narratives, and establish competitive gameplay as a core component of the Pokemon GO experience. This approach prompted Niantic to restructure the GO Battle League calendar to better align with the overarching seasonal themes.

Following several teasers about the Tales of Transformation era, Niantic formally announced the game's next season on August 26. The upcoming content update features a special research storyline centered around Keldeo, the Generation 5 Colt Pokémon whose Resolute form will finally make its Pokemon GO debut during this season.

Although Keldeo has been part of Pokemon GO for nearly three years, Niantic deliberately postponed the introduction of its Resolute form, likely to maximize its impact. An entire season dedicated to transformation themes provides the perfect opportunity for Keldeo to showcase its capabilities within the Pokemon GO universe.

Players will progressively unlock new stages of Keldeo's special quest throughout the season. The transformation theme will also manifest through new Mega Evolution debuts, increased Dynamax and Gigantamax encounters, and enhanced spotlight features for various multi-form Pokémon. Niantic has additionally hinted at the introduction of more alternative Pokemon forms during the Tales of Transformation season.

As with previous seasons, Niantic provided a detailed schedule for Tales of Transformation: the new season will run for three months from September 2 to December 2, beginning and ending at 10:00 AM local time. Throughout September, Pokemon GO players can obtain a special variant of Cobalion with the Tales of Transformation background. Terrakion and Virizion will serve as featured Pokémon for October and November 2025, respectively.

Tales of Resolution!

Witness Keldeo in its Resolute Form for the first time in Pokemon GO! Keldeo will achieve its Resolute Form after accompanying trainers throughout the season-long journey. Encounter Keldeo at the beginning of your adventure through new seasonal Special Research tasks.

Trainers who already possess Keldeo can continue their journey with the Pokémon and receive Keldeo Candy for power-up purposes.

The Tales of Transformation Special Research will be available from Tuesday, September 2, at 10:00 AM to Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 9:59 AM local time.

New Special Research segments will unlock progressively throughout the season, so players should regularly check their research tabs for updates.

Additionally, trainers should prepare for increased Team GO Rocket activity. Shadow Groudon will make its dramatic debut in Shadow Raids during Tales of Transformation, with more Shadow Pokémon expected to accompany Giovanni's return this season.

Enhanced Leveling Experience!

Pokemon GO's leveling system undergoes significant rebalancing to improve the overall experience! On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Pokemon GO will release an update raising the level cap from 50 to 80. This update aims to make the leveling journey more enjoyable and engaging by introducing new rewards, cosmetics, and celebration milestones. Many players can expect level increases based on their accumulated XP, though no players will experience level decreases.

From August 25 at 1:00 PM PDT until October 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM local time, all trainers will receive the following bonuses, which stack with other event bonuses:

• 2× Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
• +3,000 XP from winning raids
• +3,000 XP from winning Max Battles
