On September 1, Pokemon Unite excited fans by announcing two new Mega Evolutions set to debut in October. Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X are scheduled to join the battle arena this autumn. The game also hinted at two more Mega Evolutions arriving before the end of 2025, though their identities remain under wraps.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Pokemon Unite's 4th anniversary celebration, which featured the introduction of the legendary duo Latios and Latias. Latios serves as a ranged special attacker, utilizing powerful moves like Draco Meteor and Luster Purge, with the ability to fly to Latias when both are on the same team. Latias, on the other hand, functions as a ranged supporter, providing buffs to allies with Dragon Cheer and slowing enemies with Mist Ball, also possessing the Levitate ability to join Latios outside of combat.

In celebration of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's October 16 release, Pokemon Unite confirmed it would be expanding its Mega Evolution roster. Through official Pokemon channels, it was revealed that Mega Lucario will make its appearance on October 3, followed by Mega Charizard X on October 24. Each Mega Evolution requires its specific Mega Stone—Lucarionite for Lucario and Charizardite X for Charizard—which will be included as fixed held items. This requirement will also apply retroactively to Mega Mewtwo X and Y. The game teased two additional Mega Evolutions by the end of 2025, keeping players guessing about which Pokemon will receive these powerful forms.

Beyond Mega Evolutions, Pokemon Unite has more in store for players. Starting September 4, Pawmot will join the roster as an all-rounder. The same update will bring significant changes to ranked matches, with Groudon replacing Rayquaza on the Theia Sky Ruins map. Defeating Groudon grants a buff to the winning team, though opponents can steal it, adding an element of unpredictability to match outcomes.

Although Mega Mewtwo X and Y have been part of the game since 2023, Pokemon Unite continues to evolve its meta. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A introducing new Mega Evolutions like Mega Hawlucha, speculation is growing about whether these forms might eventually appear in Pokemon Unite as well.
