Nintendo Switch Online Expands GBA Library with Klonoa and Mr. Driller 2
2025-09-25 19:28:49Nintendo Switch Online has welcomed two new classic titles to its growing catalog of Game Boy Advance games. The service recently added Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and Mr. Driller 2, marking the first GBA additions to the Western version of Nintendo Switch Online since April 2025. Both titles are published by Namco, bringing third-party diversity to the platform's predominantly first-party lineup.
The expansion of Nintendo Switch Online to include Game Boy Advance games began back in February 2023. The initial GBA Classics application launched with nine titles, with an additional 15 games being introduced over the following two years. This latest update continues Nintendo's commitment to expanding their retro gaming offerings for subscribers.
The new additions arrived on September 25, introducing two distinct gaming experiences to the platform. Mr. Driller 2 was developed and published by Namco, while Klonoa: Empire of Dreams was created by Osaka-based Now Production, a studio known for its work on GameCube classics like Sonic Riders and Mario Superstar Baseball.
New Nintendo Switch Online Games Today
- Klonoa: Empire of Dreams (GBA)
- Mr. Driller 2 (GBA)
Mr. Driller 2 represents a classic puzzle experience originally released in 2000. As the second installment in the popular series, the game challenges players to drill through colored block formations, either aiming to reach specific levels or pursuing high scores in the endless mode. The gameplay mechanics involve colored blocks that adhere to others of the same hue when falling, creating strategic depth and complexity throughout the drilling adventure.
In contrast, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams offers a puzzle platformer experience from 2001. The game features side-scrolling 2D levels where players utilize a Wind Ring to attract enemies toward the main character. This unique mechanic allows for close-range attacks and enables double jumps by bouncing off captured foes. Each level presents the challenge of collecting three stars and locating the exit, with additional optional collectibles hidden throughout various stages for completionists.
With these September 25 additions, the total number of Game Boy Advance titles available through Nintendo Switch Online now reaches 26. This update represents the platform's first GBA expansion since Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones joined the service in late April 2025, which itself followed February's addition of Wario Land 4.
Access to these Game Boy Advance classics requires the higher-tier Nintendo Switch Online membership known as the Expansion Pack. In the United States, pricing for the NSO + Expansion Pack begins at $49.99 annually for individual memberships, with family plans available for $79.99 per year. Unlike the base Nintendo Switch Online tier that offers monthly subscription options, the Expansion Pack can only be purchased in 12-month increments.
