Could a Halo x Call of Duty Crossover Happen? Leaked Plans Suggest It Almost Did
2025-01-28 22:46:14Rumors of a potential crossover between two gaming giants, Halo and Call of Duty, have surfaced online. A leak suggests that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 almost featured content from the Halo universe, including maps like Halo 3's The Pit.
Halo and Call of Duty are cornerstones of the first-person shooter genre. While Call of Duty currently enjoys greater popularity, Halo maintains a significant legacy and dedicated fanbase. Microsoft's 2023 acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the publisher of both franchises, opened the door for such a collaboration.
According to Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope on X (formerly Twitter), developer Sledgehammer Games had envisioned a substantial Halo collaboration for Modern Warfare 3. This collaboration reportedly involved incorporating several Halo maps into the game. Although specific map names weren't mentioned beyond The Pit, its compact size would translate well to Call of Duty's fast-paced gameplay.
TheGhostOfHope further speculated that Microsoft may have ultimately vetoed the collaboration, citing a similar instance where a proposed Halo x Doom crossover was rejected.
While a Halo crossover might seem unusual, it's not entirely out of character for the modern Call of Duty era. The franchise has moved beyond its roots as a serious military shooter, embracing cosmetic microtransactions and crossovers with various other franchises, including the recent addition of Art the Clown from the horror film Terrifier to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Although Microsoft may have initially rejected the Halo collaboration, the possibility remains open for the future. The acquisition of Activision Blizzard allows for a streamlined process for such crossovers.
