Veteran real-time strategy (RTS) developer Relic Entertainment, known for titles like Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, embarked on a new chapter in May of last year, separating from publisher Sega.  The studio has recently unveiled its roadmap for the future, outlining a multi-pronged approach to game development as an independent entity.

Founded in 1997, Relic Entertainment built its reputation on creating intricate and engaging RTS experiences. Following its acquisition by Sega in 2013, and subsequent independence last year, the studio underwent a period of downsizing, resulting in the layoff of 41 employees.  Now, the company is looking ahead with a renewed focus.

Relic’s strategy centers around three key areas.  First, while maintaining its commitment to developing the complex, large-scale RTS games it's known for, the studio will also actively explore creating smaller, internally developed projects.  This initiative aims to branch out into new genres and experiment with different gameplay experiences.

Reviving beloved classics is another core element of Relic's plan.  The studio intends to re-release, remaster, and even reimagine existing intellectual properties (IPs).  This approach aims to introduce a new generation of players to these timeless games while staying true to the spirit of the originals.

Finally, Relic is dedicated to providing robust ongoing support for its live games, starting with Company of Heroes 3.  Underscoring this commitment, the company has announced a new update and DLC titled “Burning Steel” for Company of Heroes 3, both slated for release this month.
