Unveiling Snezhnaya's Secrets: The Winter Tsar, Nod-Krai, and the Tsaritsa's Broken Vow

The latest beta build of Genshin Impact has shed light on the enigmatic region of Snezhnaya, revealing intriguing details about its past ruler, the Winter Tsar, and the Tsaritsa's controversial actions. As the Traveler's journey progresses towards a final confrontation with the Tsaritsa and her Fatui, the mysteries surrounding Snezhnaya continue to deepen.

Snezhnaya, the last of the Seven Nations in modern Teyvat, holds a significant place in Genshin Impact's overarching narrative.  Leaks suggest a two-part exploration of this icy nation, with the initial focus on Nod-Krai, an autonomous province bordering Snezhnaya. The storyline is poised to feature key characters like Dottore, and potentially Columbina, Tartaglia, and Arlecchino.

Genshin Impact's Version 5.5 introduces the penultimate Natlan map expansion and a new Artifact Domain.  Descriptions of two upcoming Artifact Sets offer a glimpse into the lore of Nod-Krai and Snezhnaya.  These artifacts reveal a compelling narrative centered on the Winter Tsar, the Tsaritsa, and the fall of Khaenri'ah.

Before the Tsaritsa's reign, the Cryo lands were ruled by the Winter Tsar, the leader of the Fae Court. He elevated a man from northern Snezhnaya to nobility, bestowing upon him the emblem of the Nightingale. This noble became the first Torchbearer, uniting the people of Nod-Krai against the Abyss. In recognition of their sacrifice, the Winter Tsar vowed to protect Nod-Krai eternally.

However, the new artifacts suggest that the Tsaritsa broke this vow after the fall of Khaenri'ah, an event known in Snezhnaya as the Wild Hunt. Her Warriors of the Pale Star abandoned Nod-Krai during the calamity, seemingly to conquer the weakened province. While a Warrant Officer defied her orders to save Nod-Krai's children, he was deemed a traitor and forced to swear an oath.

The warriors of Snezhnaya who battled the Abyss now roam Nod-Krai, still pursuing the remnants of the Wild Hunt.  This act of betrayal adds a layer of complexity to the Tsaritsa's character and motivations, leaving players to question her ultimate goals.
