Call of Duty: Warzone Tests 150-Player Matches, Potential Return to Original Player Count

Raven Software is shaking things up in Call of Duty: Warzone by experimenting with a return to 150-player matches.

Raven Software clarified that these larger matches won't be a constant feature just yet. They're being introduced intermittently as tests, with the studio closely monitoring player feedback, performance, and overall gameplay impact in the coming weeks. Ranked play will not be affected by these trials.

When Warzone launched, it initially featured 150 players.  However, Activision later reduced the count to 100 for balance reasons before raising it to 120 in 2024.  At the time, Activision stated that 150-player matches were 'too chaotic' and a lower player count improved matchmaking times.  Despite this,  the community has consistently requested an increase in player capacity.

The timing of these tests coincides with the upcoming Season 3 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.  While official details remain scarce, the update is expected to deliver a wealth of new content. Rumors suggest a 'back to basics' approach for Season 3, possibly including the highly anticipated return of the original Warzone map, Verdansk.  The 150-player tests may well be in preparation for this potential resurgence.
