Genshin Impact February Revenue Dips, But New Characters Promise Rebound

A recent revenue report reveals a significant drop in Genshin Impact's overall sales for February.  The game, operating on a gacha model, relies heavily on revenue from its character banners.  While January 2025 saw high earnings thanks to popular characters Mavuika and Citlali, February's revenue landed around $26 million, a 74% decrease from January's $99 million.

This decline likely stems from HoYoverse's banner schedule and a temporary shift away from the Natlan storyline. The second half of Version 5.3 focused on the Lantern Rite Festival in Liyue, while the current Version 5.4 features the Inazuma region and new Electro character, Mizuki. Despite Mizuki's strength as a support unit, many players appear to have skipped her banner.

Honkai Star Rail, HoYoverse's other popular title, also saw a revenue dip, albeit less dramatically, from $51 million in January to $47 million in February.

However, there's optimism for a Genshin Impact sales resurgence.  The second phase of the current update will introduce the highly anticipated Lady Furina alongside the Fontaine character Wriothesley, finally receiving his first rerun banner.

Looking further ahead, Genshin Impact Version 5.5, slated for late March, holds even greater potential. HoYoverse has confirmed two new characters: Varesa, expected to be a five-star and a likely candidate for the first banner, and Iansan, anticipated to be a four-star unit.  This influx of new characters, combined with a return to story-focused content, could significantly boost revenue.
