The Trails series, developed by Nihon Falcom, boasts a rich history of captivating JRPGs, although it remains somewhat underappreciated in the West.  With thirteen main-series entries spanning various story arcs like Trails of Cold Steel and the recent Trails Through Daybreak, the franchise is revisiting its origins with a remake of the game that started it all.

Originally released in 2004, Trails in the Sky follows Estelle Bright's quest to become a senior "Bracer," a sort of licensed protector. Her journey intertwines with a plot to overthrow Liberl's monarchy, making for a compelling narrative.  The game achieved cult classic status, with Estelle earning praise as a standout protagonist in the JRPG genre. Now, fans eagerly anticipate the chance to relive her adventure.

A recent leak from a Canadian retailer, VGP, suggests a September 25, 2025 release date for the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remake. This information appeared on VGP's website pre-order page and was even shared on their social media channels, lending credibility to the leaked date. While Nihon Falcom hasn't officially confirmed this, a September release aligns with their recent release patterns for Trails Through Daybreak and Trails into Reverie.

A September 2025 release would also mark roughly a year since the remake's initial announcement during an August 2024 Nintendo Direct.  The updated version promises significant enhancements, including the choice between traditional turn-based combat and a real-time action RPG system. Additionally, the remake will feature new voiceovers in both English and Japanese, further revitalizing this classic JRPG.
