Nintendo has disclosed that it might monitor and record GameChat sessions on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, capturing both audio and video. This feature, designed to allow players to share screens and communicate in-game, is part of Nintendo's effort to foster a secure and enjoyable gaming experience by deterring disruptive behavior.

Announced during a Nintendo Direct livestream in early April, the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 with a base price of $449.99. A special Mario Kart World bundle will also be available for $499.99. The new hybrid console promises significant upgrades over its predecessor, including 4K and HDR support, 256GB of storage, and a 7.9-inch display. Additionally, players can expect enhanced 1080p visuals with frame rates up to 120fps, a notable improvement from the original Switch's 720p resolution. As anticipation builds, Nintendo is sharing more details about the Switch 2's GameChat feature to ensure a smooth rollout.

Nintendo recently updated its privacy policy (as reported by Nintendo Soup), explicitly stating that the company may record audio and video from GameChat sessions on the Switch 2 to ensure a safe environment. This follows Nintendo's explanation of how GameChat will function: players must first add contacts to their friends list and manually enable GameChat approval, preventing strangers from joining sessions. Parents of users under 15 will need to activate GameChat via the Switch 2's Parental Controls.

As expected, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have been chaotic, with some retailers selling out immediately and others facing technical delays. Target's website appeared to handle pre-orders most smoothly in late April, while Best Buy and Walmart encountered mixed results. Many fans opted to visit physical stores to secure their pre-orders. According to French retailer Frandroid, early sales for the Switch 2 have reached unprecedented levels.

Players who secured a pre-order will have a variety of launch titles to explore on the Switch 2, including Mario Kart World, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Survival Kids. Donkey Kong Bananza will follow on July 17, with Kirby Air Riders scheduled for late 2025.
