Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Sell Out Rapidly in UK, US Invites Coming Soon

2025-05-08 02:39:01

Early on May 7, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders went live on the My Nintendo Store in the UK, but the entire stock was claimed within 10 minutes. The Switch 2 pre-order opportunity was open to all active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the UK, with no lottery system or extra steps required.

Following the April 2 Nintendo Direct presentation, which focused on the Switch 2, pre-orders for the highly anticipated console began rolling out worldwide. While US and Canadian pre-orders were delayed until April 24 due to concerns over global tariffs, retailers in the UK and Australia started accepting orders shortly after the Nintendo Direct aired. Despite Nintendo’s efforts to increase production, Switch 2 pre-orders have been a frenzied experience for many gamers globally. The Switch 2 and its accessories are set for a full release on June 5.

Although the My Nintendo Store was designed as a seamless way for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to secure a Switch 2 before its June 5 launch, the available stock was quickly depleted. As reported by Nintendo Life, both the standard Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle sold out within 10 minutes of pre-orders opening on the UK My Nintendo Store.

My Nintendo Store Pre-Orders Sell Out Almost Instantly

  • Switch 2 pre-orders on the UK My Nintendo Store were gone in 10 minutes.
  • The pre-order window was exclusively for UK-based Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
  • No email invitations were required to participate.
  • Both the base Switch 2 and the Mario Kart World bundle were up for grabs.

The offer was open to all active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the UK, with no additional hurdles, aiming to give genuine customers a fair chance while discouraging scalpers.

In contrast, eligible Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the US will receive emails starting May 8, granting them access to pre-order the Switch 2 and its accessories via the My Nintendo Store. Recipients will have a 72-hour window to complete their purchase. Once all invitation waves are sent, pre-orders will open to the general public. Meanwhile, retailers like Walmart have chosen to focus on launch-day stock rather than additional pre-orders.

With innovative features like GameChat and major titles like Mario Kart World, the Switch 2 is expected to be in high demand at launch. It remains unclear when the next batch of UK pre-orders will be available via the My Nintendo Store or other retailers, so fans should stay alert or wait until June 5.
