Cast & Spell: A Free Wizard Dueling Game on Steam Until May 20

Cast & Spell has joined Steam's collection of free-to-keep games, available for claim until May 20. The platform frequently hosts limited-time offers, often highlighting hidden indie gems. Recently, another indie title called Nubs! Arena was free for just one day on Steam.

Earlier in May, Steam users also received Furi Demake for free. But the platform's free offerings don't stop there—players can now grab another exciting game at no cost.

Cast & Spell

Cast & Spell remains free to claim on Steam until May 20. Developed by Hosthood Studio, this game pits players against each other in magical duels using elemental spells. Essentially, it's a wizard combat game where your wand is your weapon. Cast & Spell entered early access on Steam on April 18, 2025, with the full version expected to bring more content and customization options—though the release date remains unannounced. After the free period ends, the game will return to its standard price of $7.99. Fortunately, the developer has confirmed that $8 will be the final price, with no planned increase for the full release.

Few multiplayer games with both PvE and PvP modes let players embrace the role of a wizard. For magic enthusiasts, Cast & Spell offers the choice between battling other players or teaming up against AI-controlled enemies. In PvE mode, players must fend off waves of monstrous creatures using only spells. In PvP, they duel other sorcerers with over 35 unique spells at their disposal.

While not as complex as some games' magic systems, Cast & Spell focuses on six elemental types: fire, frost, stone, lightning, water, and life, each offering distinct attack, defense, and healing spells. Currently, the game holds a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, though with fewer than 50 reviews, it's too early for definitive judgments. Hosthood Studio, the developer behind Cast & Spell, previously released Soak & Splash, a sauna simulator. Despite the genre difference, Soak & Splash earned nearly 2,000 positive Steam reviews, hinting at the studio's potential for success with this new magical battler.
