Currently, the roster features 65 female characters compared to just 33 male ones (not counting the Traveler). This 2:1 ratio has frustrated many players who want more diversity in their team compositions.

The situation became particularly apparent in 2024 when only four male characters were released - Kinich (5-Star) along with Gaming, Sethos, and Ororon (4-Stars). In 2025, the trend continued with only one male character (4-Star Ifa) among eight new additions.

A poll conducted on the Genshin Impact subreddit by user Aggravating_Dance612 revealed strong player desire for more male characters. With 178 votes, the community clearly expressed their wish for better gender balance in future updates. Many comments emphasized how the current imbalance limits team-building options and reduces representation for players who prefer male characters.

There is some good news for fans hoping for more male representation. HoYoverse has confirmed that Dahlia will debut in Version 5.7, marking the first new male character in several updates. Additionally, long-anticipated characters like Dainsleif and Varka remain high on players' wishlists.

Varka, in particular, has generated significant excitement after being confirmed to appear in Nod-Krai, a sub-region of Snezhnaya expected in the 6.0 update cycle. However, some players remain cautious after the disappointment of Capitano not becoming playable during the Natlan Archon Quest.

Character collection is a core aspect of gacha games like Genshin Impact. When certain player preferences aren't adequately represented, it can negatively impact enjoyment and engagement. The current imbalance means players who prefer male characters have significantly fewer options for team building and customization.

As Genshin Impact approaches its 100th playable character milestone in Version 5.7, many fans hope HoYoverse will address this imbalance by introducing more male characters in future updates. With popular unreleased male characters still waiting in the wings, there's plenty of opportunity to satisfy this player demand.
