Warhammer 40K: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition May Skip PS5 at Launch
2025-05-23 05:22:55Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition may not be coming to the PlayStation 5—at least not right away. While the exact reasons for the Space Marine remaster's absence on PS5 remain unknown, there’s still a chance it could arrive on Sony’s console later.
The massive success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which sold over 4.5 million copies by early 2025, reignited fan interest in revisiting the original 2011 game. Sega, which acquired developer Relic Entertainment in 2013, announced the remastered Master Crafted Edition on May 22, aiming to capitalize on this renewed enthusiasm.
However, the PS5 logo was notably absent from the reveal trailer, which premiered during Warhammer Skulls 2025. The 82-second trailer confirmed that Space Marine Master Crafted Edition will launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) on June 10.
The trailer also revealed that the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine remaster will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release. While Sega and Microsoft have strengthened their partnership in recent years, the likelihood of this being an Xbox exclusive is low. Since 2024, Microsoft has stopped pursuing permanent exclusivity for its own first-party games, making it unlikely they would pay for third-party exclusivity—whether timed or permanent.
There are two plausible explanations for the PS5 version’s absence at launch. First, the PlayStation port might need additional development time. Alternatively, the PS5 version could still be planned for a simultaneous release, but its announcement is being delayed. Industry insider Jeff Grubb reported that a PlayStation State of Play is rumored for June 2025, which could explain why Sega is holding back the PS5 announcement—possibly to bolster Sony’s event lineup.
The Master Crafted Edition promises to be the definitive version of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, featuring 4K resolution, enhanced character models, UI improvements, and a modernized control scheme. It will also include all post-launch DLC, such as the Chaos Unleashed and The Dreadnought expansions.
