Marvel Rivals Introduces Auto Chess-Inspired Mode

2025-05-23 09:41:15

Marvel Rivals has announced a new Auto Chess-like game mode that will be released on June 6. This new experience, announced by the developers, will be part of the anticipated mid-season update for Marvel Rivals Season 2, which promises other changes to the game.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 kicked off on April 11 and, confirming previous rumors, is themed around the Hellfire Gala, a popular comic book event that celebrates Mutantkind. Set to run for three months, one of the season's biggest novelties was the anticipated debut of Emma Frost as a new playable Vanguard and the nation of Krakoa as a new map. The second Marvel Rivals season also launched several events, such as the Giant-Size Brain Blast, with all the heroes having big heads, and Galacta's Gift, in which players can win nameplates and a coin to exchange for a skin. With the mid-season update approaching, Marvel Rivals prepares to release yet another feature to keep the community engaged.

Marvel Rivals has unveiled the new Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol mode, which will be released on June 6 for all players. Inspired by the popular Dota 2 Auto Chess mode, in Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol players will face off against five opponents. Each player will assemble a team of six different heroes from the roster and will be able to create builds for them, with effects such as Venom increasing in size and devouring enemies. They will then place the characters on the board according to the strategy they have defined, starting the battle against each other until only one player is left standing.

In Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, Marvel Rivals players will have the assistance of Ultron during matches. They can use cards to get enhancements such as extra health for Strategists, and a larger magazine capacity for the Duelists' primary weapon. It's important to note that while the video revealing the new game mode showed popular names such as Strange, Iron Man, and Moon Knight, not all the characters from the Marvel Rivals roster are available in this mode as of now.

Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol is an experimental mode, meaning it will be available in Marvel Rivals for a limited time. However, this won't be the only addition to the mid-season update, as after much anticipation, Ultron is finally coming to Marvel Rivals as a new playable character. The shooter will also do a new round of hero balancing, including changes to team-ups, adding synergies to duos like Punisher and Black Widow, and adjustments to characters like Jeff, Luna Snow, and Iron Fist.
