Codemasters Explores Bringing F1 25 to Nintendo Switch 2

Codemasters, the developer behind F1 25, is reportedly considering the feasibility of introducing the racing series to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. While the idea is still in its preliminary stages, it remains uncertain whether F1 25 will make its way to the new console. However, future installments in the franchise could find a home on the Switch 2 if Codemasters deems it a suitable platform.

The F1 franchise debuted 25 years ago with titles like F1 2000, F1 Championship Season 2000, and F1 Manager. Since 2009, the mainline series has consistently delivered new games each year. With F1 25 set to release on May 30, Codemasters continues to solidify its reputation for producing some of the best F1 games in a competitive racing genre.

Gavin Cooper, the creative director of the F1 series, hinted at potential expansion to new platforms in an interview with racing game news outlet Traxion. Cooper mentioned that Codemasters is internally evaluating the features of the Switch 2 to determine its compatibility with future F1 titles. "We need experts to assess the console's capabilities and whether it aligns with the F1 gaming experience," he stated, emphasizing that no official decision has been made yet.

If Codemasters decides to proceed with the Switch 2, it would mark the franchise's return to Nintendo consoles after a 14-year absence. While F1 Race Stars, a kart racing spin-off, was released for the Wii in 2012, and F1 Manager 2024 surprisingly launched on the Switch last year, the last mainline entry on a Nintendo device was F1 2011 for the 3DS.

Although a Switch 2 release could attract a new audience, Codemasters may face challenges. Following years of favorable reviews, F1 24 received mixed feedback, with critics highlighting issues like mid-race objectives. With early access for F1 25 starting on May 27, initial player reactions will soon reveal whether Codemasters has addressed these concerns.
