Destiny 2's Edge of Fate Expansion Brings Major Changes to Vendors and Game Modes
2025-06-13 22:08:00Bungie has unveiled exciting new details about the upcoming Edge of Fate expansion for Destiny 2, promising substantial transformations to the game's core mechanics and activities. As the expansion's release approaches, players are getting a clearer picture of how the Destiny universe will evolve, with updates to vendors, armor systems, and major changes to popular game modes.
The expansion will introduce a complete overhaul of Destiny 2's armor system, featuring innovative set bonuses and an enhanced tier system that offers superior stats and perks. Recent announcements from Bungie highlight modifications to key vendors like Ada-1 and Banshee-44. Ada-1 will now provide players with the ability to focus on exotic armor, while Banshee-44 will offer legacy weapons to help Guardians complete their collections. However, the most significant changes revolve around the game's current modes.
Gambit, introduced in the Forsaken expansion, revolutionized Destiny 2 with its unique PvPvE gameplay, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Despite its initial success, the mode suffered from prolonged periods without updates, leading to player fatigue and speculation about Bungie's commitment to its development. While Gambit retains a dedicated following, many wonder what could have been if the mode had received continuous support and innovation.
Unfortunately, Bungie has confirmed that Gambit will be placed on hiatus with the launch of Edge of Fate. While the mode will remain accessible through the Worlds tab of the Director, offering legacy rewards, there are no immediate plans for new content or gear updates. However, Bungie assures players that this isn't the end for Gambit, hinting at a future revival with fresh mechanics and rewards reminiscent of the beloved Gambit Prime from the Season of the Drifter.
Gambit isn't the only activity taking a break. Iron Banner will also be sidelined until September, coinciding with the major Destiny 2 Ash & Iron update. Although Bungie hasn't disclosed specific reasons for this decision or potential changes to Iron Banner, they announced that Heavy Metal will return to fill the void, alongside a new Crucible mode called Cutting Edge. This mode will restrict loadouts to seasonal gear and exotics, offering a fresh challenge for PvP enthusiasts.
