Limited Run Games has delivered exciting news for retro gaming enthusiasts, confirming that a Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility update for the recently launched Gex Trilogy is currently undergoing review by Nintendo. This update is scheduled to coincide with the game's multi-platform release on June 16. The publisher also revealed that all physical copies shipping in late October will include this next-gen compatibility patch.

The Gex franchise began in 1995 as a 2D platformer on the 3DO system, developed by Crystal Dynamics and starring the wisecracking gecko protagonist. After successful ports to PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC, the series evolved into 3D platformers with Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Following decades of dormancy, Limited Run and Crystal Dynamics surprised fans in 2024 with the announcement of the Gex Trilogy revival for modern platforms.

While the collection is already available digitally, Limited Run clarified that the Switch 2 optimization patch awaits Nintendo's approval. Current Switch owners can play without issues, but Switch 2 users encounter compatibility warnings. Once approved, the update will enable seamless gameplay on Nintendo's newest hardware through a downloadable patch for the original Switch version.
