Nintendo Switch 2 Users Report Potential Battery Swelling Issues
2025-06-18 02:19:24While the Nintendo Switch 2 has enjoyed tremendous commercial success since its launch, some users are now reporting potential hardware issues with their consoles. Several owners have observed swelling in their devices, raising concerns about the stability of the lithium-ion battery system.
The Switch 2 has broken sales records for Nintendo, moving over 3.5 million units in its first four days on the market. The console's improved graphics, enhanced GameChat features, and expanded memory have received widespread praise from reviewers. However, these recent reports of hardware problems have tempered some of the initial enthusiasm.
Multiple users have taken to social media to share their experiences with swollen consoles. One Japanese user posted images on Twitter showing their Switch 2's back panel separating after just two days of use. Another Reddit user reported receiving a unit with visible swelling straight out of the box. Nintendo has advised affected customers to return their consoles immediately, as swollen batteries can pose serious fire hazards.
Interestingly, the reported swelling doesn't appear near the battery compartment in these cases, suggesting the issue might stem from manufacturing defects rather than battery problems. Nintendo has stated they're taking these reports seriously and encourages users to report any unusual console behavior.
These swelling reports follow earlier complaints about Joy-Con 2 stick drift issues appearing right out of the box. Some users have also experienced data loss during system transfers, with one player reportedly losing over 1,000 hours of Pokemon save data.
Nintendo has also been cracking down on modified consoles, banning some Switch 2 units connected to MIG Flash devices that enable unauthorized game loading or emulation. These banned consoles lose access to online services and void their warranties.
