The First Descendant Bids Farewell to PS4 and Xbox One

2025-06-20 00:50:52

Today marks a significant milestone for The First Descendant as Nexon officially discontinues support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. This decision, initially announced in March 2025, has now taken effect, leaving players on these older platforms without further updates or content.

The First Descendant is a free-to-play third-person looter shooter that debuted in July 2024, immersing players in a sci-fi universe where they take on the role of enhanced humans known as 'Descendants.' The game combines cooperative multiplayer action with RPG mechanics, allowing players to team up for fast-paced battles. Despite facing criticism over its monetization and progression systems at launch, The First Descendant attracted a substantial player base. Originally available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the game is now moving forward without its legacy console versions.

The End of an Era for Legacy Consoles

As confirmed by Nexon, The First Descendant will no longer receive updates or support on PS4 and Xbox One starting June 19. The developer explained this decision during a livestream earlier this year, citing technical limitations of the older hardware and the challenges of maintaining consistent performance across all platforms. Players on PS4 and Xbox One can transfer their accounts to newer systems to continue their journey.

Focusing on the Future

Nexon emphasized that this move allows them to concentrate on delivering high-quality content, such as the upcoming The First Descendant Season 3, set to launch on August 7. This major update promises significant gameplay improvements and a collaboration with the acclaimed JRPG NieR: Automata, featuring iconic outfits for characters like A2 and 2B. Additionally, the Season 3 Battle Pass will introduce new rewards, including a Common skin.
