The developers of Phantom Blade Zero have clarified that their upcoming title transcends conventional gaming genres. Rather than fitting into the Soulslike or hack-and-slash categories, this ambitious project represents what S-GAME calls a "Wuxia Action Game" - a fresh fusion of martial arts storytelling and dynamic combat mechanics.

First revealed through a six-minute gameplay trailer at a PlayStation event earlier this year, followed by an announcement trailer in May, Phantom Blade Zero immediately captured attention with its striking visual style and unconventional approach to action gameplay.

S-GAME CEO Qiwei Liang (known as Soulframe) recently addressed fan speculation through an open letter, explaining how initial impressions might have misrepresented the game's true nature. "This isn't a Soulslike nor a traditional action title," Liang stated, emphasizing that Phantom Blade Zero deliberately avoids easy classification within existing genre frameworks.

The game's development began as an experiment to merge hack-and-slash combat with intricate, multi-layered level design. However, the project gradually evolved into something unprecedented - a cinematic Wuxia experience that blends:

• Deep roots in Chinese mythology and lore

While no official release date has been announced, S-GAME confirms the game will launch before the end of 2025. Currently, hands-on demos are being conducted at Shougang Park in China, offering select players their first experience with this unconventional action RPG.
