Alex Hernandez Speaks Out on MindsEye's Troubled Launch and Industry Practices

Alex Hernandez, acclaimed for his performances in Mafia 3 and the recently released MindsEye, has publicly addressed the game's problematic debut and shared his thoughts on necessary industry reforms. MindsEye, the inaugural project from Build a Rocket Boy studio, faced significant criticism upon release due to numerous technical issues. While the development team works on fixes, the game's lead actor has voiced his concerns about current industry standards.

Under the leadership of former Rockstar Games president Leslie Benzies, Build a Rocket Boy faced immense pressure to deliver with its first title. However, MindsEye encountered problems even before reaching players, with early previews labeling it as fundamentally broken. Rather than delaying the game, studio executives controversially suggested that negative feedback might be part of a coordinated attack by competitors - a claim that quickly proved unfounded as players experienced the game's technical shortcomings firsthand.

Hernandez, known for his role as Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3, recently discussed the situation in an interview with Check It TV. "As both a performer and a gamer, I share the community's frustration," he stated. The actor questioned the rationale behind releasing unfinished products and emphasized the need for industry-wide changes in development practices.

With MindsEye earning the dubious distinction of being 2025's lowest-rated major release, Hernandez advocates for more frequent delays when necessary. "The current trend of shipping unfinished games needs to stop," he asserted, referencing similar issues with titles like Cyberpunk 2077. The actor believes developers should establish new standards, prioritizing quality over arbitrary release dates.

While Hernandez enjoyed working on the project, he refuses to excuse its technical problems based on the studio's inexperience. "Technical issues affect player experience regardless of a developer's history," he remarked. 'Gamers deserve polished products, whether it's a studio's first or fiftieth release."
