Call of Duty: Warzone Brings Back Battle Royale Solos Mode
2025-06-27 02:19:42Raven Software, the developer behind Call of Duty: Warzone, has officially announced the return of the Battle Royale Solos mode to the free-to-play shooter starting June 26. This comes after the mode's unexpected removal late last month, which was replaced by Battle Royale Casual Solos—a similar variant featuring mostly AI-controlled bots in lobbies. The change initially sparked frustration among fans, but Raven Software defended the decision as necessary to keep playlist options "focused and manageable."
The removal of Battle Royale Solos was met with significant backlash from the Call of Duty community, but it wasn't the only controversial move in Season 4. Players also noticed advertisements appearing in the game's Create a Class tab shortly after the update went live. This unannounced feature, missing from the official patch notes, was later removed by Activision, which claimed it was mistakenly published as part of a test. While some doubted this explanation, many were relieved to see the intrusive ads quickly taken down.
Activision acted swiftly to address the advertisement controversy, but Raven Software initially stood firm on keeping Battle Royale Solos out of Warzone—until now. According to a recent Call of Duty blog post, the classic Solos mode will return alongside the Casual variant starting June 26. This means players can once again enjoy Solos without facing bot-filled lobbies, though the Casual option remains for those who prefer a more relaxed experience. Activision noted that the introduction of Casual Solos tripled the number of players engaging with the mode.
Despite the uproar over its removal, Activision revealed that Battle Royale Solos is actually Warzone's least popular playlist. The game offers a wide array of modes, including Duos, Trios, Quads, Resurgence variants, and limited-time events like Plunder. With player distribution spread thin across these options, Raven Software opted to temporarily remove Solos to improve matchmaking speeds.
For fans of casual gameplay, Warzone's upcoming Season 4 Reloaded update will introduce a new Resurgence Casual playlist. This mode will feature 44-player lobbies with a mix of bots and real players, similar to Battle Royale Casuals. Progress in this mode won't affect player stats, making it ideal for low-pressure matches. The update is set to launch on July 2.
