Hytale's Original Founder Seeks to Reacquire the Game from Riot Games After Cancellation
2025-06-30 02:24:39The gaming community was left in shock when Riot Games announced the cancellation of Hytale, a highly anticipated sandbox game that many believed could rival Minecraft. Originally developed by Hypixel Studios, the team behind the famous Hypixel Minecraft server, Hytale had garnered significant attention since its initial reveal. However, the game's ambitious scope ultimately led to its downfall, leaving fans and developers alike disappointed.
In a surprising turn of events, Simon Collins-Laflamme, one of the original founders of Hypixel Studios, has expressed interest in buying back Hytale from Riot Games. According to reports, Collins-Laflamme is preparing to make an offer of around $25 million to reacquire the rights to the game. While he remains cautiously optimistic, he has warned fans that the chances of reviving Hytale are slim, given the complexities involved.
Collins-Laflamme isn’t the only prominent figure showing interest in Hytale. Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe has also hinted at the possibility of stepping in to help revive the project. However, he emphasized the need for more information about why the game failed before committing to any involvement. This cautious approach reflects the challenges of resurrecting a project of Hytale's scale.
Meanwhile, fans of Hytale have launched a petition on Change.org, urging Riot Games or Hypixel Studios to release a playable build of the game. The petition has already gathered over 1,500 signatures, demonstrating the strong community support for the project. Despite this, neither Riot Games nor Hypixel Studios has officially responded to the campaign.
