Nexon has unveiled exciting details about The First Descendant's upcoming Season 3: Breakthrough, set to launch on August 7, 2025. The new season promises a wealth of fresh content, from a brand-new playable character to exclusive NieR: Automata crossover skins, aiming to reinvigorate the game's player base.

Since its debut in July 2024, The First Descendant has seen two major seasonal updates, but neither managed to recapture the game's initial success, which saw over 264K concurrent players on Steam. Currently, the game's player count has dipped below 10K, but Nexon hopes Season 3 will mark a turning point.

During the Descendant Fest 2025 livestream, Nexon showcased the new Axion Plains as the primary setting for Season 3. Players can expect massive battles, hidden dungeons, and a formidable new boss—The Wall Crasher—who unleashes devastating shockwaves and AoE attacks. A demo will be available starting July 24, giving fans an early taste of the action.

One of the highlights of Season 3 is the NieR: Automata collaboration, featuring skins for 2B and A2. The crossover, launching alongside the season, adds to the growing list of NieR-themed partnerships in recent months. Additionally, new gameplay features like the Hover Bike and the playable character Nell were teased in the latest trailer.

Despite its decline in player numbers, The First Descendant remains a visually stunning looter shooter built on Unreal Engine 5.
