While refusing to commit to specific timelines, Furukawa emphasized Nintendo's philosophy: "Our goal remains unchanged—we want as many players as possible to enjoy our systems for as long as possible." This statement suggests a potential 7-8 year support window, similar to the original Switch.

The Switch 2's backward compatibility feature creates an interesting dynamic. Players can experience the entire Switch library on the new hardware, meaning classic titles like Breath of the Wild will find new audiences. Furukawa noted this extended lifecycle allows generational engagement—children who grew up with the original Switch can now enjoy its successor during their teenage years.

Nintendo's upcoming release slate demonstrates their long-term commitment. Donkey Kong Bananza arrives July 17, followed by major titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The successful launch title Mario Kart World has already set a strong foundation for the console's future.
