Electronic Arts has officially announced that Anthem's servers will be permanently shut down on January 12, 2026. The online-only action RPG, developed by BioWare, will effectively cease to exist after this date as it requires constant server connectivity to function.

Originally launched in 2019, Anthem represented a significant departure from BioWare's traditional narrative-driven RPGs, focusing instead on cooperative third-person shooter gameplay. Despite high expectations, the game received mixed reviews at launch and struggled to maintain a player base.

BioWare attempted to revitalize Anthem with updates, but development support officially ended in 2021. While the servers remained operational, no substantial new content was added. EA has now ceased sales of Anthem's in-game currency, though existing currency can still be used until the shutdown.
