In celebration of the upcoming 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX, Square Enix has begun sharing stunning new artwork from the beloved JRPG across its social media platforms. These posts, featuring iconic locations like the Iifa Tree and memorable characters such as Kuja and the Tantalus theater troupe, have reignited fan speculation about a potential remake announcement.

The anniversary officially falls on July 7, marking exactly 25 years since the game's original PlayStation release in Japan. While Square Enix hasn't confirmed any remake plans, the timing of these artistic reveals has certainly set the fan community abuzz with anticipation.

The artwork series began on June 30 with two breathtaking pieces. The first, created by artist Yuya Ishihata, showcases the game's main cast assembled on Tantalus' theater stage. The second piece, from original character designer Toshiyuki Itahana, depicts the villainous Kuja contemplating the roots of the mystical Iifa Tree.

On July 1, Itahana shared another magnificent illustration showing the playable party standing atop the Iifa Tree's roots, with the game's distinctive twin moons looming large in the sky. These artistic tributes follow earlier character artwork from Itahana that similarly fueled remake rumors last month.

The remake speculation originally gained traction after the 2021 Nvidia GeForce Now leak, which accurately predicted several other Square Enix projects. While the company has remained silent about any Final Fantasy IX remake plans, fans continue to analyze every social media post for potential hints.
