Sloclap Unveils Exciting Tournament Mode Details for Rematch
2025-07-05 11:33:49The development team at Sloclap has revealed exciting new information about the highly anticipated tournament mode coming to their hit soccer game, Rematch. Since its successful launch on June 19th, which saw over 92,000 players join within the first 24 hours, Rematch has established itself as a standout title in the sports gaming genre.
In a recent developer blog post, Sloclap outlined their roadmap for Rematch's future, prioritizing crossplay implementation while simultaneously working on several new competitive features. Among these upcoming additions, the tournament mode has emerged as the first major competitive enhancement players can expect.
During an interview with PC Gamer, Sloclap's Co-Founder and CEO Pierre Tarno shared specific details about the tournament system. These competitive events will operate differently from standard ranked matches, offering scheduled competitions with unique stakes. Players will have flexible participation options, either forming teams with friends or using matchmaking to join with others.
The tournament format is designed to last approximately two hours. Based on Rematch's standard 6-minute match duration and accounting for preparation time between games, industry observers speculate tournaments might feature either 16 teams in single-elimination brackets or 8 teams in a double-elimination format.
Tarno also previewed the upcoming club creation system, Rematch's version of guilds or clans. Unlike traditional systems, this feature will allow players to establish clubs based on real-world locations, enhancing the game's immersive soccer experience. 'We want to ground it in the reality of actual places and cities because that's a crucial part of the football fantasy,' Tarno explained.
While tournament mode represents an exciting evolution of Rematch's competitive gameplay, some challenges remain. The game's premium pricing model (as opposed to free-to-play) means player population could impact matchmaking quality in tournaments, particularly for ensuring balanced competition across large participant pools.
