Electronic Arts has officially announced that Battlefield 6 will implement AI-controlled bots to populate multiplayer lobbies when human players are scarce. This controversial decision comes as part of the studio's efforts to address player retention issues while maintaining the large-scale battles the franchise is known for.

Despite the mixed reception to this feature in previous installments like Battlefield 2042, developers argue that bot integration serves as a necessary bridge during off-peak hours. The gaming community remains divided, with some praising the guaranteed match availability while others express concerns about diluted competitive integrity.

During a recent developer Q&A session, Battlefield 6's creative team detailed how the AI system will function. Game Director Anna Narrevik explained that bots will dynamically adjust their difficulty based on the skill level of human players in each match. This adaptive approach aims to prevent the lopsided matches that plagued Battlefield 2042's implementation.

Lead Gameplay Designer Jac Carlsson highlighted the game's Portal mode as an alternative for players seeking bot-free experiences. "Our custom game tools allow communities to create their own rule sets and matchmaking parameters," Carlsson noted. "This gives players more control over their multiplayer experience than ever before."

The development team emphasized that bots will primarily serve as temporary placeholders, automatically being replaced by human players as they join ongoing matches.
