Ubisoft Announces Free Story Expansion for Assassin's Creed Mirage

Ubisoft has made an exciting announcement that Assassin's Creed Mirage will receive a surprise story expansion, and it will be completely free for all players. This new content will significantly enhance the game experience by introducing a brand new location to explore alongside additional narrative elements.

Assassin's Creed Mirage

When Assassin's Creed Mirage first launched in October 2023, it received mixed reviews from critics, becoming one of the lower-rated main installments in the franchise's history. However, many longtime fans appreciated its more focused map design and streamlined experience compared to the massive RPG-style entries that followed Syndicate. Despite this divided reception, Mirage initially seemed destined to skip story DLC entirely, making it the first mainline game to do so since the original 2007 title.

Nearly two years after its initial release, Ubisoft confirmed on August 23 that the game will indeed receive story expansion content. While the official name remains undisclosed, developers revealed that the upcoming content will feature a new story chapter and missions set in 9th-century al-Ula, an ancient Arabian oasis city. The announcement was accompanied by impressive concept art showing protagonist Basim approaching al-Ula from the east as the sun sets in the west.

Key Features of Assassin's Creed Mirage Upcoming Expansion

  • New explorable location: 9th-century al-Ula
  • Additional story chapter and missions
  • Various gameplay enhancements
  • Free release scheduled for late 2025

The upcoming expansion will also introduce gameplay improvements to the base experience, according to Ubisoft. All these additions will be available at no cost later in 2025. While substantial free content drops are unusual for big-budget games, a January 2025 report from French outlet Les Echos might explain this decision. The report indicated that Savvy Games Group—a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund—had struck a deal with Ubisoft for additional Assassin's Creed Mirage story content. The exact terms of the agreement weren't disclosed, and Ubisoft declined to comment at the time.
