Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Drops Carry Forward Feature in Response to Fan Feedback
2025-08-27 02:20:32In a surprising move, Activision has confirmed that the Carry Forward feature will not be implemented in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Scheduled for release on November 14, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 promises to deliver the classic experience fans expect, featuring a compelling story campaign, robust online multiplayer, and the beloved Zombies mode.
However, the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has not been without controversy. The Black Ops 7 campaign trailer from Gamescom received a significant number of dislikes, with many fans expressing concerns over the direction of the series. Worries about the inclusion of cartoony crossover cosmetics, similar to those in Black Ops 6, have prompted Activision to take action. The company has acknowledged these issues and confirmed that content from Black Ops 6 will not be transferable to Black Ops 7 as originally intended
The Carry Forward feature, which allowed players to bring skins and weapons from previous Call of Duty titles into new games, has been discontinued for Black Ops 7. Activision stated, "Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting." This decision means that none of the Black Ops 6 Operators, skins, or weapons will be available in the new game. However, Double XP tokens and GobbleGums are exceptions and will carry over. Black Ops 6 content will remain accessible in Call of Duty: Warzone, as this change is specific to Black Ops 7. The company emphasized, "In Black Ops 7, bundles and items will be crafted to fit the Black Ops identity. We hear the feedback. We need to deliver a better balance toward the immersive, core Call of Duty experience."
Activision also addressed other pressing issues, such as the ongoing problem of cheaters in Call of Duty. Starting with Black Ops 7, PC players will be required to enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, measures designed to help Activision "block cheats at the system level." Additionally, new detection and mitigation systems will be introduced to remove cheaters "earlier and harder." Some of these anti-cheat features will be tested during the Black Ops 7 open beta.
