CD Projekt RED's Commitment to AAA Open-World RPGs
2025-06-02 00:18:34CD Projekt RED, the acclaimed developer behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk series, has reaffirmed its commitment to AAA open-world RPGs. Known for their immersive storytelling and rich game worlds, CD Projekt RED continues to be a leading force in the RPG genre.
The studio's reputation soared with the 2015 release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game that set new standards for open-world RPGs. While the first two Witcher titles were successful, it was the third installment that cemented CD Projekt RED's status as a top-tier developer. Cyberpunk 2077, despite its rocky launch, has since been refined into a critically praised experience, showcasing the studio's dedication to post-launch support.
In a recent episode of the AnsweRED Podcast, CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwiński and joint-CEO Adam Badowski discussed the studio's strategic focus. Iwiński emphasized, "We must concentrate on our strengths—creating expansive, narrative-driven RPGs. Diversifying too much would dilute our ability to deliver exceptional experiences." Badowski added, "Our niche is AAA open-world RPGs, and we’re committed to perfecting this craft."
The duo elaborated on the challenges of staying focused in a rapidly evolving industry. Iwiński noted, "It's tempting to explore other genres, but we've learned that spreading ourselves too thin compromises quality." Badowski revealed that future games will build upon their predecessors, ensuring each title pushes boundaries while staying true to the studio's core vision.
This disciplined approach has allowed CD Projekt RED to refine its expertise, promising even more polished and immersive games for fans. Currently, the studio is developing the next Witcher and Cyberpunk sequels, both of which will embody their signature open-world RPG design. Recently, it was confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 has entered pre-production, marking an exciting phase for the franchise.
