Publisher 11 Bit Studios has revealed that Christopher Larkin, the acclaimed composer behind Hollow Knight's memorable soundtrack, will be creating the original score for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Larkin's new musical approach represents a significant tonal shift from his previous work, perfectly matching the sequel's more vibrant and energetic atmosphere compared to the original game.

Initially announced in December 2024, Moonlighter 2 expands upon the successful formula that blended dungeon exploration with shop management in the 2018 original. The sequel transports protagonist Will to the remote village of Tresna, introducing enhanced visuals, refined mechanics, and new town-building features that offer extensive customization options. The development team has also placed greater emphasis on roguelike elements, aiming to create a deeply replayable experience that builds upon the foundation established by its predecessor.

As the October 2025 release approaches, 11 Bit Studios continues to share exciting details about Moonlighter 2, with the latest announcement confirming Christopher Larkin's involvement in creating the game's original soundtrack. The award-winning composer is transitioning from Hollow Knight's melancholic tones to embrace a more eclectic approach that incorporates elements of whimsy and adventure. "Moonlighter 2's soundtrack is adventurous - just like Will's journey," Larkin explained in an official statement. "The music spans from folk influences to electronic soundscapes and even industrial metal, reflecting the constantly changing and unfamiliar world that players will explore."

Spanish development studio Digital Sun Games collaborated closely with Larkin, who initially confirmed their partnership in December 2024. Their joint effort focused on ensuring the musical composition would enhance Moonlighter 2's vivid game world. According to DSG Creative Co-Director Victor Ribera, this collaboration has resulted in "an experience that feels cohesive, rich, and deeply immersive." Moonlighter 2 represents Larkin's eighth video game project, adding to his impressive portfolio that includes Pac-Man 256, Expand, Hacknet, Outfolded, Hollow Knight, TOHU, and the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Originally targeting a Q3 2025 release, Moonlighter 2 has been rescheduled for October 23, when the action RPG will debut in early access on PC. The game will also be available through Microsoft's Game Preview program as a day-one PC Game Pass title. While PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are currently in development, these console releases are not expected during the early access period. According to the Moonlighter 2 Steam page FAQ, the early access phase will continue for "as long as the game needs it" to reach its full potential.
