Dragon Age: The Veilguard has officially joined the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library as of August 28, 2025. This marks the thirteenth and final addition to Microsoft's subscription service for the month, as well as the 108th new title added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate since the beginning of the year.

BioWare's highly anticipated RPG experienced a notably challenging development cycle, which included two complete reboots and several key staff departures from the Canadian studio. Despite these hurdles, the game finally launched in late October 2024 to generally favorable critical reception. It currently holds a "Strong" rating on OpenCritic with an average score of 80 and a 71% recommendation rate from critics. However, player reception has been more mixed, with Steam reviews averaging "Mixed" based on nearly 27,500 user ratings, while console store ratings sit at 3.5 stars on Xbox and 3.22 stars on PlayStation.

Nearly ten months after its initial release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has made its way to Xbox Game Pass as the final new addition for August 2025. While not a day-one release, the fantasy RPG requires the EA Play add-on, making it exclusively available to PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Players can experience The Veilguard on Xbox Series X/S, PC, or through cloud streaming on supported devices via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

It's somewhat unusual for major non-Microsoft studio productions to join subscription services within their first year of release. This move typically indicates underperformance in commercial sales, which appears to be the case here. Electronic Arts confirmed in January 2025 that The Veilguard fell short of sales expectations, moving approximately 1.5 million units—about half of the publisher's initial targets.

With this addition, the entire Dragon Age franchise is now accessible through Microsoft's subscription service. The first three installments joined Xbox Game Pass in November 2020 and have remained available since. While each title offers distinct gameplay experiences, all four games emphasize meaningful player choices and detailed—though occasionally inconsistent—worldbuilding.
